Double Major
The Department of Linguistics offers double major programs with three departments listed below.

If you are currently enrolled in the Department of Linguistics, please read the section For Linguistics Students. If you are a student in one of the departments offering a double major program with Linguistics, please read the section For Incoming Students.
Please note (for all students)
- To apply for a double major, you must be an undergraduate with a cumulative GPA of 3.0. Some departments may have higher GPA requirements and quota restrictions. Please check with the relevant department.
- You may submit a double major application only at the beginning of your third, fourth or fifth semesters.
- The deadline for double major applications is announced in the Boğaziçi University Academic Calendar.
- If you are planning to apply for a double major program, please read the university regulations.
- Double major applications must be submitted to both departments simultaneously. Please fill out the ÇAP Başvuru Formu and have it signed by both departments.
- If you are accepted to a double major program, you must register as a double major student at the Registrar’s Office (Kayıt İşleri) by submitting the form ÇAP Kayıt Beyan Formu.
Currently, linguistics students can only apply for a double major program with the department of Western Languages and Literatures. The double major programs with Translation and Interpreting Studies and Turkish Language and Literature are pending Senate Approval.

Requirements to apply for a Double Major Degree:
- To apply for a double major, you must be an undergraduate with a cumulative GPA of 3.0. Some departments may have higher GPA requirements and quota restrictions. Please check with the relevant department.
- You need to have passed all your classes with a passing grade (No “F” on your transcript). If you have an F you must repeat the class to get a passing grade.
- You may submit a double major application only at the beginning of your third, fourth or fifth semesters.
- Check with individual departments for additional requirements. Some departments hold interviews, and ask for a statement of purpose. Check the interview dates with the department that you are applying to.
To Complete Your Application:
- Please fill out the ÇAP Başvuru Formu and have it signed by both departments.
- If you are accepted to a double major program, you must register as a double major student at the Registrar’s Office (Kayıt İşleri) by submitting the form ÇAP Kayıt Beyan Formu.
After You are Accepted:
- You must finish the program in 10 semesters (exclusive of one semester spent as an Erasmus student). If you join an Erasmus program, you can finish your degree in 11 semesters. This does not include summer schools.
- You will be assigned two academic advisors. (Associate Professor Mine Nakipoğlu from Linguistics, and the double major advisor of your double major department).
- You must maintain a minimum GPA of 3.00, with the exception of one semester when it is allowed to go down as low as 2.90.
- Currently, students from the department of Western Languages and Literatures can apply for a double major program with Linguistics. The double major programs with Translation and Interpreting Studies and Turkish Language and Literature are pending Senate Approval and not admitting applications.

- 3.00 Minimum GPA
- One-page Statement of Purpose
- Interview
- Most recent copy of your transcript
To Complete Your Application:
- Please fill out the ÇAP Başvuru Formu and have it signed by both departments. Submit your most recent transcript and Statement of Purpose along with the ÇAP Başvuru Formu.
- If you are accepted to a double major program, you must register as a double major student at the Registrar’s Office (Kayıt İşleri) by submitting the form ÇAP Kayıt Beyan Formu.
