  • Researcher, Inferring the Evolutionary History of Turkic Languages using Answer Set Programming. 2007-2009.
  • TÜBİTAK
  • PI: Esra Erdem (Sabancı University)
  • Another goal of the proposed project is to reconstruct the evolutionary history of Turkic languages by using the phylogenetic system that will be developed in the project. The most relevant studies on this subject are related to the classification of Turkic languages according to either geographical or phonological principles; however, evaluation of languages with respect to each criterion has not always produced plausible results. In this study, we will gather and compile phonological, lexical, morphological, geographical, temporal information, and, for the first time, the evolutionary history of Turkic languages will be thoroughly investigated using computational methods and considering various sorts of criteria at the same time. By this way, Turkic languages will be studied, from the viewpoint of inference of evolutionary history, according to the criteria used for other language families, and thus will take its place in the literature.

  • PI, Lazca’daki Durum ve Uyum Eklerinin Biçimbirimsel ve Sözdizimsel Özellikleri. 2007-2008.
